You know that odd feeling, when you get an unexpected COMPLIMENT?....
Well, I just walked by a bunch of high school girls and two of them stopped me...."Excuse me Ma, You are so BEAUTIFUL..." I was a little thrown off, by their pure and sincere ADMIRATION. I murmured a quiet "Awww...Thank You" shyly. Of course, a lot of people don't know how easily 'embarrassed' 'Alex' gets when it comes to compliments.
You see, I didn't know these girls, I don't think they knew me. Here I was wearing a 3/4 casual jumpsuit with a cardigan, my signature NAPPY hair and without a single stitch of make-up (as I always am, whenever I am out around my neighbourhood)...looking for a mechanic to FIX my flat tyre, yet these young girls I would expect will dreamingly worship the photoshop beauty, teenage girls are exposed to, on COVER magazines and beauty blogs, thought I was 'so beautiful' they needed to stop me, just to tell me so.
The problem is, I actually thought twice about stepping out of my home without make-up on. I mean, I get reminded now and again that I am a CELEBRITY and I always need to look my Sunday's best.... I even considered wearing a little mascara, maybe some foundation and a lip gloss to mask my recent work stress...but I changed my mind because I was too much in a hurry and the sun was bloody HOT.
Sometimes, we get lost in our awry ideas of beauty and PERFECTION, that we forget that 'beauty' in itself can be found in simplicity, in flaws, in imperfections and that different people appreciate beauty differently.
Your forehead might be WIDE and your nose might be LONG, your hips might be NARROW and your breasts might be SMALL. You might be overweight and your legs might be SHORT, bow, shaped like a 'K' or not without a limp. You don't know how to pronounce words without a single lipse and your skin is simply not the colour of PEACH.
You may not always meet society's PERCEPTION of perfection or what is seems. But in the real world, you will always be beautiful to someone.... just as long as you are comfortable and CONFIDENT in your very own skin.
